Most Americans can not take any paid time away from work to care for a family member who needs support. For millions of families — including those taking care of a newborn baby, an aging parent or a chronically ill spouse — paid leave would help ease the financial burden of caring for a loved one.
The FAMILY Act would allow most workers to earn up to twelve weeks of paid leave each year. People taking leave would earn a percentage of their original salary (up to a certain point), so nobody will have to choose between caring for a loved one and paying the bills.
The FAMILY Act was introduced in Congress a year ago today, but despite having 100 cosponsors in the House, the bill has not moved. Our families can't afford to wait another year for this vital support. Sign this petition to urge Congress to pass the FAMILY Act today!
When you sign, we'll add your name to the letter below and deliver it to your member of Congress:
Dear members of Congress,
Nobody should have to choose between caring for a loved one and paying the bills. Paid family leave will allow our families to look out for each other.
We urge you to support the Family Medical Insurance Leave Act — the FAMILY Act — which would enable millions of families to earn up to twelve weeks of paid family leave.
The FAMILY Act was introduced a year ago, but our families can't afford to wait for this vital support. Please support the FAMILY Act and ask your colleagues to do the same, so this bill can finally come up for a vote.
