“Our challenges don't define us. Our actions do.” This phrase, from the Think/Able project of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, exemplifies why he inspires us. We share his belief that our actions define us, and that’s one of the reasons we wanted to send him a thank you card.
With both his new television show and research foundation, Michael is taking action to increase awareness around people living with disabilities and chronic illness. His breakthrough work continues to promote the freedom for all people to have dignified choices about work, and the choice to live at home.
Together we are building a movement to be sure that all people can make choices to live with dignity and independence. When public leaders like Michael step up, they motivate more people to join our movement, and help build it. So, let’s thank him for taking action.
Will you add your signature to this thank you card for Michael?
Dear Michael J. Fox
Thank you. Your work is more than an act of determination - it is an example to thousands of Americans who believe that people living with illness and disabilities deserve the freedom and necessary support to choose independent lives.
You have raised visibility for our communities, and positively contributed to changing perceptions and prejudices. Your work helps to shift prejudices, and is an important contribution to creating a country where we can all live and work with dignity and choice.
There is still more work to be done, but we wanted to take a moment to appreciate your many contributions. We stand with you in taking action, because as you have said -- it is our actions, not our challenges, that define us.
Thank you very much!
